The Adolescent Kit

J Marshall Events was pleased to work with the Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP) section at UNICEF to launch the Adolescent Kit for Expression and Innovation. The kit is a package of guidance tools and supplies for young people aged between 10 and 18 years to help them overcome conflicts and emergencies.

Human Centered

The Adolescent Kit is UNICEF’s first “human centered” design, with UNICEF working closely with partners to discover and understand the needs, desires and behaviors of adolescents and facilitators with limited resources.

Development

The kit was developed as a resource that can be used in peacebuilding initiatives, and the guidance is aligned to the Peacebuilding Competency Framework that ADAP developed and disseminated in 2014. ADAP produced 75 prototypes in 2015 and will provide funding for 1000 kits to be made available globally in 2016.

Annual Fall Benefit

J Marshall Events was honored to team up with Harboring Hearts to assist with their Annual Fall Benefit. A non-profit organization Co-Founded by Michelle Javian and Yuki Kotani, Harboring Hearts provides financial and moral support to families of those receiving cardiac treatments.

JME worked closely with Michelle, Katherine Ronberg and the Harboring Hearts team for almost 7 months which culminated in an exciting event at the fabulous Core Club in Manhattan. The program included live music, honoree awards, a silent auction, speeches and a specially produced video.

Guests, Sponsors and Honorees

The almost 200 guests included families who have received Harboring Heart’s support, sponsors of the Foundation and Honorees, Constance Milstein and Dr. Hiroo Takayama. The show was hosted by the charming Ryan Serhant (Million Dollar Listing, While we’re Young) and an effervescent Dr. Mehmet Oz (The Dr. Oz Show) stepped in to emcee the electronic fundraising component powered by Givergy (formerly Daana).

The evening wound down with a couple of songs from Tony Award Winning performer, Nikki James. However, the guests were having so much fun enjoying the performance along with the amazing dessert donations that the doors remained open for quite a while longer.

Compassion and Resilience

It was a long production day but a very moving experience to be surrounded by people with such compassion and resilience. Harboring Hearts has helped many families of all ages and through support and donations will continue to do so for many years.

Cardinal Turkson Q&A Session at UNICEFWhat an eventful time we’ve had at J Marshall Events! Recently, JME helped UNICEF to introduce Cardinal Turkson as he led a discussion for over 100 people on climate change and how it is affecting today’s children and future generations. The Cardinal, who works closely with Pope Francis, discussed how today’s society needs to make efforts to take care of our environment in order to preserve it for generations to come.

The insightful remarks by Cardinal Turkson were followed up by a great Q&A session from members of several Child-Focused Agencies like ChildFund, Save the Children, and SOS among others. Overall another wonderful and great event with UNICEF!

3-day Event

The summer began over here at J Marshall Events with a 3-day project for UNICEF celebrating innovation! We were thrilled to help launch UNICEF’s new Global Innovation Fund, which focuses on the future of technology and how it can be used  to improve the lives of children around the world. The Global Innovation Centre event involved us building temporary walls for the exhibition and managing multiple events including a press and media launch, reception, meetings and workshops. We also had several re-sets, which took place late evening so a big thank you goes out to my whole team.

Oculus Virtual Reality

I was fortunate enough to try the new virtual reality oculus gear – and it was amazing!. Viewers like myself experienced the bittersweet video, “Clouds over Sidra”, a glimpse into the everyday experience of a young girl living in the Za’atari Syrian refugee camp. The experience was haunting and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried at the end.

The virtual reality experience was only one example of the wonderful and innovative technological advances showcased at UNICEF’s exhibition. With partners ranging from the private sector to academia, UNICEF’s Global Innovation Centre shows the promise of helping children through technological advances and innovation.

1 in 11 LogoFor our first event of 2015, JME were especially delighted to manage the press launch of the 1 in 11 Campaign Initiative in early January. UNICEF, the FC Barcelona Foundation and Reach out to Asia (ROTA) have formed a partnership to address the global problem of 58 million children (1 in 11) being out of school.  The goal of the 1 in 11 Campaign is to reach disadvantaged children through the power of sport within education giving every child a chance to fulfill their potential.

1 in 11 Press Launch

The event premiered the 1 in 11 campaign film featuring sports stars Lionel Messi and Serena Williams demonstrating their own “Keep Ups” challenge and inviting fans to join them at www.1in11.org.

Speakers included FC Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, ROTA (Reach Out To Asia) Executive Director Essa Al Mannai and UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, with a special appearance by artist Takashi Murakami.

A great way to “kick off” the New Year!

CRC 25th Anniversary at UNICEF

CRC @ 25

This year, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) celebrated its 25th year. The CRC is an international human rights treaty protecting children under the age of eighteen, and currently 194 countries are working to protect the social, political, economic, health and cultural rights of children. On Thursday 20th November, 2014, the UN hosted several high-level events to honor this anniversary which included a concert, panel discussion, a launch with keynote speakers and a cocktail reception for the Queen and Prime Minister of Sweden.

Having produced the 20th Anniversary of the CRC at the General Assembly 5 years ago, JME was thrilled to be part of the UNICEF team once again.  With 5 events back-to-back in different locations it certainly was a full day, starting with the launch of the UNICEF #IMAGINE project with Hugh Jackman and Yoko Ono, and finishing with a cocktail reception for HM Queen Silvia.
